An Ingratitude / THANKFULNESS Contrast

Scripture: Luke 17:11-19 (NCV)
11
While Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem, he was going through the area between Samaria and Galilee.
12 As he came into a small town, ten men who had a skin disease met him there. They did not come close to Jesus
13 but called to him, “Jesus! Master! Have mercy on us!“
14 When Jesus saw the men, he said, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.“ As the ten men were going, they were healed.
15 When one of them saw that he was healed, he went back to Jesus, praising God in a loud voice.
16 Then he bowed down at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. (And this man was a Samaritan.)
17 Jesus said, “Weren’t ten men healed? Where are the other nine?
18 Is this Samaritan the only one who came back to thank God?“
19 Then Jesus said to him, “Stand up and go on your way. You were healed because you believed.“

Every year as the November/Christmas Seasons come around we have a reminder as to what we should be thankful for in our great country of America. God has blessed America over the years and still is. In just a few days, every American voting age and registered-to-vote will have the privilege, in fact right to go and cast their one vote for many different offices as we participate in our countries Mid-term elections on November 6. Everyone who can vote should do their BEST to vote.
But moving to the scripture passage, there are numerous lessons we find here we shouldn’t overlook. The first is pretty forthright – that as human beings, we tend to steeped in ingratitude, rather than thankfulness. You can’t miss it….of the 10 lepers healed, just one returned with thankfulness. They were all afflicted with a terrible disease and shouted from a distance, Jesus, Master have mercy on us. And He was quick to oblige their request. His sending them to the priest to have them verify they were no longer contaminated was standard protocol, “and as they went” they were “cured and made clean.” (Amp) The living Bible says, One of them came back to Jesus shouting, “Glory to God, I’m healed.” He fell flat on the ground in front of Jesus, facedown in the dust, thanking Him for what He had done. This man was a despised Samaritan.”
Christ’s response: “You may get up and go. Your faith has made you well.” The other primary thing this passage teaches us is that God find great pleasure in our thankfulness for His mercy at work in our lives. What has God blessed you with in recent days? As we approach Thanksgiving, let’s be sure our attitude of gratitude far outweighs our ingratitude as we fix our minds on the many blessings and gifts HE has provided us. Colossians 1:12 – “…giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the Kingdom of Light.
