The Specific Help God Offers Our Mothers
Sunday, May 10 is Mother’s Day this year. If you are a mother, we truly salute you. Because you are a conscientious mom, you may find yourself pulled down by the inevitable demands and worries of everyday life in the 21st century. With this coronavirus pandemic currently upon us, the challenges grow even greater. Our world brims with temptations, distractions, and dangers. Sometimes we can hardly help ourselves; we worry for our families, we worry for ourselves, for others around us. If you become discouraged, exhausted, or both, then it’s time to take your concerns to God. Whether you find yourself at the top of a mountain at this moment, or in the depths of the valley, God is always there. Open your heart to HIM and He will lift your spirit and renew your strength. That’s God’s promise to you.
A mother’s success with her husband, children, her family will be directly proportional to your intimacy with Christ. That’s why even in busy days, it becomes increasingly important to make time to develop your personal relationship with Christ. (By the way, it’s no different for the Father’s.) Listen to a few of God’s promises: “God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.” (2 Tim. 1:7) Here’s another: “My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.” (Ps. 23:5,6 NKJV) And this one: “I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.” (Phil. 4:13) These are not verses of scripture taken out of context to be read as a band-aid placed on a serious problem(s). These are realities that literally spring to life for us as we trust the God of promise and let His Spirit apply them right in our tough daily situation. That is why we say things like “Prayer isn’t preparation FOR the battle; pray IS the battle.” That means it becomes my maintenance preparation so that I am equipped on a moment’s notice when the demand for strength, guidance, help comes. Today, as a gift to your family, yourself , and God’s Kingdom, why not claim the joy, the power, the strength that is rightfully yours in Christ. His divine power has provided us with everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.” (2 Pet. 1:3) So remember why God tells you, “Be still and KNOW that I am God.”(Ps. 46:10a) God is using you as a wonderful influence for you family, as well as the at large. While this year it won’t be as easy to take our mother’s out for dinner to give them a ‘break’ from their cooking demands, or other demands life throws at them to respond to, might we as families think of some creative and constructive ways to let them know we really love and support our moms for the many things they selflessly do. They definitely do not just talk about their love for their families. They are living examples of God’s love and grace day in and day out. Moms, we thank you and salute you for being a mother who is shaping our world.
