“Thankfulness for All It’s Worth”
Sometimes, it is easy to see the lack of gratitude in our culture as many people forget the essence of being thankful. Maybe it is because of the lack of experience when it comes to hardships of life. If a person never goes through the fires of trials and tribulations that come with life, they may have a hard time appreciating the resolutions that follow such ordeals.
It’s like an child that that has their way all the time experiencing compromise for the first time. Since concession is a remote concept, there’s no appreciate for the notion of graciously conceding. This is just one perspective of what’s at the core of the problem. The notion of having what we think we deserve may taint our views when it comes to being grateful.
The Apostle Paul said in Philippians 4:12-13 that,
12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
It is quite a work of the Spirit when we can be satisfied, and even gratified in our times of hardships. With that comes the notion of thankfulness that comes with having all that we do have. We might have issues within our household; yet, we can be thankful that we have a household. We may have financial difficulties; but, praise God we have what we need for this day. There are many who face uncertainty when dealing with health concerns; but, they are given another day to be thankful for that day. In all situations, Paul says to be content and be thankful.
In Hebrews 12:28, he writes,
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe”.
Since we are the followers of Christ, we can trust and hope in the Lord as we have a confidence that God will take care of us. We need not to fear or to worry about the affairs that come with life and living in this world; but, we can have assurance that God will provide what we need, at the time we need it. With such assurance comes thankfulness. Hebrews 13:5 tells us to,
“5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
As we celebrate Thanksgiving this November, let’s be grateful that we have a loving and caring Father that provides for our needs and gives us mercy and grace to make it through all situations, no matter how difficult.
I am thankful that I am a Child of God and his love is enough for me. Though adopted as an heir with Christ, we are assured that He will never leave us stranded as orphans, alone and without hope. Have a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving, 2022.
