Coming to Life
I recently gave a message from Ezekiel 37 about the ‘Valley of Dry Bones’ and how the Lord and his Spirit raised the bones to life. As incredible as that is, it is only contingent on a greater supernatural event that we sometimes take for granted. The only way people are able to be spiritually revived is because of the death and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Now, that might seem to be a basic fundamental insight; yet, millions and billions of people fail to fully embrace the greatest aspect of life. What is more important than that which sustains life itself? We sing songs that speak about Jesus being “the air I breathe” and being “my daily bread”, as well as, “the water for my soul”; yet, people are dying spiritually because they are not drawing the vital provisions that only Jesus can provide.
At Easter, people may ponder the cross and tomb for a bit and give consideration to who Jesus is; but, the fact of the matter is that if we don’t know Jesus as our personal savior, we are already dead. Yes, people may live active and lively lives and have many friends and great prosperity; but, they still fall way short of being alive, spiritually.
Our spiritual wellbeing should be the most significant issue in our lives. Everything else will eventually pass away. Money, possessions, property, is all temporal. Even relationships are limited outside of the bonds of our faith in God. Our souls are eternal, and will live forever. I would think with such a vital role of life, people would tend to their spiritual condition first and foremost. It is tragic that in most cases, people fall short in this area of life.
This brings me to the issue of Easter. There are many that are living a life of spiritual death. This seems like an oxymoron, being alive and dead at the same time; but that is exactly what is going on in the lives of sinners when they fail to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior. Jesus knows a lot about death and life; in fact, nobody knows more. He was crucified, died and rose again from the grave. He was not subjected to death any longer because he defeated the bonds of death, hell and sin through the power of his resurrection.
In the same way, people have the same opportunity to have victory over sin, hell and death through Jesus Christ. He is the key. There is no other way to solve the sin, death, and hell problem of our spiritual living. That is why Acts 4:12 proclaims
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
This is what Easter is all about; coming to life. It is not only life, but life everlasting, more abundant and fulfilling. Through salvation, we are reconciled with our heavenly Father and our relationship with him is restored. In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
This Easter, it would be nice if we took a little more time to reflect on the issue of ‘coming to life’. How great would it be for our friends, family, work colleagues, and even our rivals to come into the saving grace of Christ? The message concerning ‘coming to life’ is not copy-right protected. There is no trademark infringement on the story of Easter. It doesn’t cost a cent to tell someone about the ‘Good News’. I think that there is no greater feeling than knowing that the story we can tell can bring someone ‘to LIFE’. Have a Happy and Blessed Easter.
