Prayer As A Life Priority
Jesus said to pray this way: “Your Kingdom come, on earth, as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). In Luke 11:1, scripture records Jesus praying in a certain place. When He finished one of His disciples asked Him, Lord, teach US to pray. So Jesus gave them the model prayer to kick-start them in their praying. Part of that model prayer was dealing with how God hungers for His Kingdom to come to earth as it is in heaven. God’s plan for that to happen is through the prayer of His disciples. He wants to think through our minds, work through our hands and feet, see through our eyes, love through our heart, so that we can be Jesus to a world who doesn’t know who He is or why He came. Out of Christ’s own heart, he states His purpose to Pilate. The purpose Jesus said he was born for was “to testify to the truth.” Then He adds, “Everyone on the side of truth listens to Me.” (John 18:37). Part of our contemporary discipleship needs to include prayer as a priority. Mostly because the channel through which God’s truth flows from heaven to this fallen world is through His disciples who are listening to Him, and passing it on to others both by example and by words. Prayer is not a recurring ritual that is empty of meaning, but the very lifeline for us, his disciples, so we might receive our daily marching orders from above. Walking in the Spirit and listening to God in prayer is so important for Him to operate in the affairs of men today. That’s why God is in need of many disciples who will be His body and voice in our world, and why we need to speak the truth in love as He called us to do. We will discover this to also become a stimulus to our own spiritual growth. (See Ephesians 4:15) ‘Lord, use me THIS DAY as a channel through which You can do Your will in the life of that person whose path I cross….may I be a channel of Your Life. Amen”
