“IT’S FALL, YA’LL”

There are so many things about autumn that I enjoy. The cooler weather, the colorful foliage, fall sports, and using the fireplace are just a few things that make fall a special time of the year. It reminds me how small I am in the big picture of life and yet how important I am to God. With the fall season comes things that bring such great comfort.

I was raised in southern New Jersey, but I recall the trips to Virginia with my family during the fall season. I saw the vast, colorful mountains, with vibrant red, orange, and yellow trees that seemed to bring the hills ablaze. It was such a delightful event. As I grew older, I developed my agenda and stopped traveling with my parents. It wasn’t until I moved here to the Lehigh Valley that I was reminded of the wonderful aspects of the mountains during the autumn season and how much I admired the beauty of God’s creation.

I guess, as I gaze upon the splendor of His workmanship, I take inventory of just how awesome God truly is. All of creation sings the praises of his greatness as the beauty of nature is reminiscent of his majesty. Psalm 90:2 declares;

“Before the mountains were born or you gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.”

The same occurs when I sit at the beach and take in the vast and powerful sea. As I sit along the edge of the ocean, I gain a sense of just how great God is and just how small I truly am. All that God has created is a testimony to his greatness and when compared to humanity; we don’t even come close. All that mankind can boast cannot even remotely compare to the handy work of God.

For this reason, I am even more amazed at the nature of God in that he loves and cares for someone like me. Though we are so minuscule in the grand scope of things, he treats us as his prize creation. James 1:18 tells us that;

“He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.”

Despite all our imperfections and faults, he loves us and wants what is best for us. This is why he has given us such an awesome world. I can imagine how methodical he was when creating the earth knowing that it was made for us to dwell. Ecclesiastes 3:11 cites that;

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart, yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

When considering what God has prepared for those who love and serve him, all that is regarded as awesome and grand here might appear as ‘peanuts’ compared to what’s in store in eternity. So when you have the opportunity to take a moment to behold the wonders of nature, remember that it is the work of an Awesome God that has given us the blessings here and the life that is to come.
